Poisons

WARNING:
It is a true case of ABSOLUTE EMERGENCY!
The smaller the pet is, the faster the poison gets deep.

EACH MINUTE COUNTS, the first ones above all:

1. Make vomit by placing a little piece of soap at the bottom of the throad,
2. Then, make swallow some clay scattered in warm water,
3. CONSULT IN EMERGENCY A VETERINARIANtaking with you, if possible, the suspected poison, to show him.

Emergencies

Cats are more advised than dogs, thus, when the accident comes, it is often very serious.

Know that:

• Any wound, any malaise, any rise in temperature are not inevitably reasons for emergency consulting. There is emergency only when cat's life seems in danger (strong weakness, blood vomitings, sanguinolent diarrheas, strong bleeding, great sufferings, etc.).
• 75 % of wounds and traumatisms may be cured by the cat's owner.

Have a little First Aid case containing:

• gauze compresses,
• a gauze strip,
• a medical thermometer,
• some needles, a surgery pair of tweezers and a chisel,
• a Yellow Betadin flask,
• a tube of disinfecting ophtalmic ointment,
• 100 g of clay in powder (intestinal inflammations, poisons),
• an insecticide product.

Keep along with you the phone numbers of:

• Some veterinarians (if one is out, the others are not);
• Fenua Animalia: 423 423 (watch out about duty hours).

Vaccines

Vaccined cats = protected country

• Against F.I.V. Cat's AIDS is the most abundant disease on the Territory. IT IS NOT transmissible to man.

 
This extraordinarily contagious disease is a true calamity in our country. Some veterinarians think that 80% of the Polynesian cats are contaminated.
 
To vaccinate without respecting the time limits between injections a vaccine is not efficient, useless

Parasites

As long as the environment is not cured, the parasite come always back.

• Ectoparasites (parasites de la peau) :
  • Fleas
  • Ticks
  • Manges
  • Louses
  • Mycosis

  
  Manges and mycosis must be subjected to a veterinary treatment.
   

• Endoparasites (Internal parasites) :
  • Intestine worms
