Definition

The S.D.R. was constituted by the Arrêté Territorial 0446/CM of the 24 April 1995, after a deliberation of the Polynesian Cabinet the 19 April 1995.

Here are the translated lines of this order concerning Pets (for original ones, see the french version of this page);

Article 1:

The service du développement rural, comes under the authority of the Rural Developpment Chief, is constituted of a central direction, of administrative departments, of technical departments and agricultural sectors.

The Food Quality and Veterinary Action Department is commissioned for the Territory livestock sanitary protection in the aim to develop animal productions and public health protection. It is managed by a veterinarian doctor in its official capacity.

It owns in its attributions to design, draw up and control the application on the whole territory and at its borders of zoosanitary and veterinary actions and regulations concerning :

What's up actually?

- NOTHING:

The S.D.R. has built up no structure allowing to assume this part of its mission.

When responsibles are asked, the answer is traditionnal here:

"Our budget requires us to make choices,
We have more important other priorities,
and anyway we are already undernumbered."

Even if it is true that at present the S.D.R. numbers don't allows to assume, it is nevertheless true that if the political will to manage the situation was existing, credits would be available. Only compare with other ministries, services, operations : It is obvious.

In other words, "we never have enough time and means for affairs which are not of big concern for us", and imagination is always fertile to find pretexts allowing to elude awkward questions, to hide unwillingness.

Thus, obviously, there is no reason why things may change, as long as the population pressure won't be stronger and more structured.
